Choir’s music tour of Britain

Somercotes Choral Society’s next concert is called Musical Britain and will take place on Saturday, October 31, at Alfreton Grange Arts College.

The varied programme includes music by Gilbert and Sullivan, Lionel Bart, Paul McCartney, Edward Elgar, John Rutter and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The guest artist is Jason Darnell, a local tenor, who sings regularly at Southwell Minster, York Minster and throughout Europe.

Jason has performed previously with the choral society in the past. He studied at the Britten-Pears School and gained an MA in Vocal Performance Practice at the University of York. He has recorded and broadcast on ITV, Channel 4 and BBC Radio 3.

The choral society’s musical director is Neil Farley and the accompanist is John Hobbs.

Carole Jones, the concert secretary, said: “This will be the third time we have performed at Alfreton Grange, which proves to be a great venue for the choir and the audience.

“The concert offers varied entertainment with traditional, classical and modern British music. We are also delighted to welcome back Jason Darnell as our guest artist.”
