Concert kicks off jubilee year

St Mary’s Church, Nottingham, will be hosting a Royal celebration on Saturday, January 14.

The East of England Singers will be performing Music for Royal Occasions to celebrate the beginning of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year.

The audience will be treated to the 18th century fizz of Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and stately coronation anthems composed for George II and Queen Caroline and performed at coronations ever since, complemented by celebratory glasses of mulled wine in the interval.

The programme will also include pieces associated with Elizabeth II’s Coronation and Britten’s Choral Dances from Gloriana, Walton’s Music from Henry V and Parry’s I Was Glad (heard at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding). The East of England Singers are the chamber choir of Nottingham-based Music for Everyone. Formed in 1985, this specialist choir is conducted by Angela Kay.
