Fans will be flocking to Derby this weekend when some of the biggest local and national names in the field of folk music perform there.

The Eighth Derby Folk Festival takes place on October 3-5, and, due to the fire at the Assembly Rooms car park earlier this year, has been relocated to a festival marquee in the Market Place, outside the temporarily closed venue.

The festival organisers will also be presenting acts at the Guildhall Theatre and The Old Bell Hotel.

This year’s line-up will be a fabulous mix of established and emerging stars.

Amongst those taking part are Steeleye Span, Show of Hands, Kate Rusby (pictured), Martin Simpson and The Lucy Ward Band.

The festival will be jam-packed with concerts, folk club events, dance displays, workshops, craft stalls - and a great atmosphere throughout the weekend.

The festival kicks off on Friday night with appearances by Steeleye Span, Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies, Steamchicken, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, and The Open Road.

Saturday, October 4, is the date for appearances by Show Of Hands, Coope Boyes and Simpson, The Carravick Sisters, Philip Henry and Hannah Martin, Finest Kind,Merry Hell, Winter:Wilson, Cardboard Fox, Steve Turner, JP Bean, Sarah Matthews and Maria Whatton.

Sunday, October 5, features top performers such as Kate Rusby, Martin Simpson, The Lucy Ward Band, David Gibb and Elly Lucas, Sunjay Brayne, Dana and Susan Robinson, and Lester Simpson.

The names mentioned represents a tantalising selection of some of folk music’s biggest names, plus rising stars on the Derbyshire scene, and from further afield too.
