Stars come out for new season

The forthcoming autumn season at the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall Nottingham will feature a great line-up of stars.

World-renowned actors, comedians and musicians will all perform at the venues before the end of this year.

From the world of comedy, Russell Brand, Bill Bailey, Milton Jones, Jason Manford, Tracy Morgan, Sean Lock, Greg Davies and Ed Byrne will all make a stop at the Royal Concert Hall on their forthcoming UK tours.

The venue will also play host to a who’s who of pop and rock, with visits by Bryan Ferry, Jamie Cullum, Motörhead, The Seekers, M People, Al Stewart, Deacon Blue, the Guy Barker Orchestra with very special guest to be announced, Alison Moyet, Paul Carrack, Chris Barber and Acker Bilk.

In the Theatre Royal, famous names to appear this autumn will include Paul Michael Glaser as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Matthew Kelly in To Sir, With Love, Felicity Kendal and Simon Callow in comedy drama Chin Chin and Ben Miller in the new political comedy, The Duck House, prior to the show going into the West End.

Both venues have plenty to engage younger audiences, too, including Michael Morpurgo’s The Butterfly Lion, starring Gwen Taylor, a delightful staging of The Gruffalo’s Child, not to mention Northern Ballet’s first ever ballet for children, The Ugly Duckling, and regular Beanbag Music Club events throughout the season.

All ages will be welcome to join the Theatre Royal’s Family Open Day on Saturday 26 October with lots of interactive fun and backstage secrets revealed.

Musical theatre fans will have a chance to enjoy some old favourites as well as some new classics this autumn, including The Rocky Horror Show starring Dani Harmer and Philip Franks, Our House, inspired by the music of Madness, a return of the ever-popular Dreamboats and Petticoats and Nottingham Operatic Society’s production of Oklahoma! There will also be a special 20th anniversary concert performance of Rent in the Royal Concert Hall starring Atomic Kitten and West End leading lady Natasha Hamilton.

Northern Ballet will bring their acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the Theatre Royal in October and Opera North return with their thrilling Discovering Britten season in November, in this the centenary year of one of this country’s greatest composers.

The Royal Concert Hall also welcomes the return of Douglas Adams’s radio comedy classic, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Meanwhile, the Royal Concert Hall’s Nottingham Classics Season commences in the autumn with concerts from The Hallé.
