Take a detour to see Detor at Whitworth Centre

US pianist and singer songwriter Krista Detor will be bringing her UK tour to the area on Saturday, May 10, for a performance at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale.

Krista’s music has been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro and Leonard Cohen in style and she is currently touring to promote her fifth solo release, Flat Earth Diary, her first album in four years.

So what has Krista Detor been doing for the past four years, you ask?

She’s been to Stanford University several times, as part of the Writing and Rhetoric program and as a panel member in a symposium on Arts and Sustainability.

She’s produced benefit events for education, animal welfare, sustainability, and this year, for Volunteers in Medicine.

In four years, She’s travelled across the world and written roughly 50 compositions, including travel to India to collaborate with students at the American Embassy School on the musical theatre piece, If You Ever Leave; and collaboration on the musical theatre piece, The Breeze Bends the Grass - celebrating the lives of four women artists at the turn of the 20th century.

The gig gets under way at 7pm and tickets for the Whitworth Centre performance are £12, available on 01246 860022.

n Top tribute band Limehouse Lizzy will be in action tonight (Thursday, May 8) at The Fishpond in Matlock Bath.

The show starts at 9pm, and tickets are £1

Limehouse Lizzy are officially one of the hardest working bands in the UK.

They were accredited for their live shows by the Performing Rights Society last year, and received their certificate from PRS Chairman (and respected songwriter) Guy Fletcher.

Renowned for an action-packed pyrothechnic-fuelled explosion of a show, Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy alive, well and dominating stages worldwide.

The band have also added a tribute into their show to ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist (and world renowned solo artist) Gary Moore who sadly passed away last year.

Attention to detail, playful audience interaction and that all important X-factor leaves you with the feeling of witnessing the real thing.
