YOUNG Knives make a return to Derby on October 25 to play a gig at The Venue.

As part of their UK tour, the band will play tracks from their albums Ornaments from the Silver Arcade, Superabundance and Voices of Animals and Men. There might even be brand new material from the next album.

Young Knives may well have come to light in the midst of the guitar pop explosion of 2005 but the trio from Ashby-De-La-Zouch, via Oxford, always stood to one side of their peers. With a bite and aggression to early hit singles, She’s Attracted, The Decision and Weekends And Bleak Days (Hot Summer), they suggested influences more akin to The Fall, Gang Of Four and Wire as opposed to the more prevalent likes of The Kinks and mid-period Beatles. The band built a deserved reputation for incendiary live performances while their choice of ex-Gang Of Four man Andy Gill to produce debut, gold certified album Voices Of Animals And Men pointed to a desire to move beyond the beat pop of their peers.

The Venue is located on Abbey Street, Derby, and doors open at 8pm. Tickets are £10 in advance via 01332 203 545 or http://www.imemusic.co.uk.
