Musical comedy full of great expectations

Fast-paced musical comedy Dickens Abridged romps though the great author’s literary creations in 70 minutes of madcap mayhem.

The production includes Oliver Twist, Great Expectations (complete with flaming bride), David Copperfield, Bleak House in less than 60 seconds and A Tale of Two Cities featuring a fully functioning guillotine.

Four actors brings hundreds of Dickensian characters to life in the show which visits Buxton Opera House on Tuesday, November 10.

The show also delves into the bizarre-but-true story of Charles Dickens’ own life, including his complicated romantic entanglements and his inexplicable enthusiasm for performing the bludgeoning scene from Oliver Twist over and over and over again.

Dickens Abridged has been devised by Adam Long, founding member of The Reduced Shakespeare Company and co-creator of TheComplete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).

The show, which starts at 7.30pm, is a singing, dancing love-letter to the life and works of the great man.
