For the audience, Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music has everything: first love, last love, puppy love, pistols at dawn, spectacle, style and the hit song Send In The Clowns.
The production will be staged by Present Company at Buxton Opera House from September 3 to 5.
Formed by Jean Gemmell, the company made its debut in 1988 with this iconic musical, performing in a Sondheim Celebration Weekend at Buxton Opera House.
Present Company which, now as then, draws together some of the best amateur singers and actors from the East Midlands. Members are all “stars” in their own spheres, with credits in leading roles in plays and musicals over the whole spectrum of theatrical experience, from grand opera to pantomime via Shakespeare and Wilde.
Jean Gemmell, who celebrates more than 50 years as a director, has gathered together this talent, expressly to create a new production of A Little Night Music, a musical with no chorus which requires performers of real acting calibre, with vocal technique of operatic quality, who can also dance!
Performances are at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets from £13.50 (matinee). For tickets, contact 01298 72190 or www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
