An ideal night out for Wilde fans

Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company will be performing Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre from March 11-15.

This popular comedy, first produced in 1895, was the third of Wilde’s quartet of West End successes.

A comedy of manners, the play revolves around blackmail and political corruption, touching on themes of public and private honour, the hypocristy of the upper classes and the position of women in society.

An Ideal Husband is the company’s non-Shakespeare production for 2014 and theatregoers who enjoy a ‘well-made play’ will not want to miss it.

They will enjoy the lavish setting of Sir Robert and Lady Chiltern’s glittering society party at a house in Grosvenor Square, the costumes and, most of all, Oscar Wilde’s witty dialogue.

Performances start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 for concessions.

They are available by calling the box office on 01332 255800 or they can be bought online by going to www.derbylive.co.uk
