DERBY LIVE’s selection of touring productions at its venues this spring will offer up four diverse and appealing offerings to hopefully suit all tastes.
The acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre will be presenting two extremely differing plays during March.
The first is John Godber’s April in Paris, running from March 1 to 5 at Derby Theatre.
Out of the blue, Al and Bet, a couple you wouldn’t exactly call love’s young dream, are in a romance rut but, all of a sudden, they manage to win a trip to Paris.
Will the city of love rekindle some life into their dying relationship or is this the end of ‘la rue’ for them? The comedy stars Wendi Peters, best known as Cilla from Coronation Street.
Hull Truck Theatre’s other production is an adaptation of DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, running at Derby Theatre from March 29 to 31.
Lady Constance Chatterley is trapped in a loveless marriage. Injured in battle, her husband Clifford is unable to satisfy her desires and so Constance finds herself in the arms of another man.
Written in 1925, D.H. Lawrence’s controversial work was banned from sale until 1960 for its frank and explicit depiction of sex and its portrayal of a passionate and adulterous love affair.
You will not be surprised to learn that this production therefore contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.
For something completely different, you could try the touring production of the much-loved musical Annie, at Derby’s Assembly Rooms from April 4 to 9.
One of the most popular of all musicals, this tale of little orphan Annie, the gin-soaked Miss Hannigan and ‘Daddy’ Warbucks provide us with some show-stopping and memorable musical numbers including It’s
The Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and the legendary Tomorrow. The show stars Su Pollard as Miss Hannigan.
Finally, The Agatha Christie Company is back out on the road with its latest touring production, Agatha Christie’s Verdict, that can be seen from April 4 to 9 at Derby Theatre.
This riveting and compelling drama offers up a thrilling evening of morals and murderous intentions from the Queen of Crime where it only remains to be seen what verdict will be delivered, and if justice will prevail. Among the cast is Dawn Steele, star of ITV1’s Sunday night drama Wild At Heart.
Ticket details for these four touring shows are available by calling the Derby LIVE box office on 01332 255800.
