Derby Youth Musical Theatre’s production of the Madness musical Our House will be at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre from September 25-28.
The group was established in March this year by two of the founders of Chellaston Youth Players, an offshoot of Chellaston Players, which, for six years, performed youth musicals in Derby’s Guildhall Theatre to full houses and supportive and appreciative audiences.
Our House contains the music of British pop music legends Madness and a script by Tim Firth and was first performed at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End in October 2002. The musical won the 2003 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
It is the story of Joe Casey who, on his 16th birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their very first date. In an effort to impress her he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits in two: the Good Joe who stays to help, and Bad Joe who flies. ‘Our House’ follows the two courses his life would have taken had he stayed to face the music ormade a run for it.
Tickets, priced at £11.25, with concessions available, can be purchased on 01332 255800.
