Belper School Year Ten student Jamie Vella has passed his Silver Arts award – a qualification offered by the Arts Council for young people aged 14 to 24.
Jamie has been working on the project for almost a year, choosing to showcase his skills as a theatre technician and working on a number of projects both within Belper School and in the community.
He was a member of the technical team when the Belper School Theatre was opened and has been head technician for a number of school plays and examinations. He also regularly helps out with Belper Players and the Vanessa Millar School of Dance.
The requirements of the qualification include enhancement of skills, self-assessment, leadership and artistic appraisal and Jamie has been praised for his coherent and evaluative portfolio, which highlights his varied experience of the Arts.
Jamie plans a career in the Arts as a technician, and the Arts Award is an important step towards this.
His Arts Award mentor, Joan Hardy, said: “Jamie has real promise and shows all the signs of becoming a successful technician with a secure grounding in theatre arts.”
Belper School Headteacher Martyn Cooper added: “Jamie has done well to achieve this prestigious award and his consistent contribution to the artistic events at Belper School is much appreciated.”
