Derbyshire audiences love to laugh, and they will soon have plenty to tickle their funny bone as the first Derby Comedy Festival looms ever closer.

Derby LIVE are working alongside other arts organisations in the city, including Dèda, Derby Theatre, Funhouse Comedy Club, Furthest From The Sea, QUAD and Sinfonia Viva, to bring a wide range of great events over ten days running from June 13-22.

The festival will feature all sorts of comedy including: stand-up, improv, puppetry, children’s comedy, burlesque and theatre.

With a programme packed full of the hottest comedic talent, from local comedians to rising stars, the festival will bring a host of vibrant and appealing events to Derby.

The news that the Assembly Rooms has to be closed for at least 18 months has had an impact on the festival and unfortunately Dawn French, Morecambe, Jimmy Carr and Knightmare Live! have had to be cancelled.

The festival has also lost Derby Pomp & Stomp from the Darwin Suite, as organisers were unable to re-home this event.

However, the festival will still be going ahead, and there will be a Festival Tent in the Market Place that will now house the Ben Norris (pictured), Comedy Club 4 Kids, Funhouse Comedy and Norman Lovett performances.

There is more good news, as Comedy Moves will now begin in the Guildhall Theatre Large Clubroom before moving to the Council Chamber as planned, both Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre performances will also take place in the Guildhall Theatre Large Clubroom.

Interrobang has been moved to The Book Café and Britain’s Got Talent favourite Steve Hewlett will now be closing the festival in the Derby Theatre Studio.

Tickets can be booked online at www.derbycomedyfestival.co.uk where you can also see more information on the forthcoming acts.
