Help your child get inspired about a bright future at an open evening for prospective pupils at Aldercar High School Sixth Form.

This popular sixth form offers study options for all abilities, with Level 1 and 2 courses alongside A-levels and BTECs.

And the emphasis is firmly on supporting Year 12 and 13 students to help them grow – helping them reach their potential by finding work or studies that suit them and including extra pastoral care outside their studies for an additional helping hand.

Future students and their families can find out more at an open evening at the school in Daltons Close, Langley Mill near Nottingham, on Tuesday, October 11, from 5pm to 7pm.

Learning for everyone

“We offer programmes at Level 1 and 2 to make our learning accessible for students who may have struggled with their GCSEs, as well as A-levels and BTECs,” says Fay Cracknell, Head of Post-16, explaining that there is something for everyone. "At Aldercar, we are committed to providing a wide range of study programmes which are tailored to our individual student needs and employment goals whether they be university, a high-end apprenticeship or sustainable employment."

Pupils are challenged to develop their personal, independence and employability skills to create individuals who can contribute to society and compete in the workplace and academic market.

The sixth form has helped students go on to study in Japan, Kenya, British Columbia and Australia as well as secure higher-level apprenticeships with Rolls Royce, BT and Virgin.

Extra support all round

"We are focussed on helping students to be aspirational in their career planning so they can aim for the very best future,” adds Ms Cracknell. “Many students have an idea of what they want to do but need help working out the best path to get there and that’s where our team can help.”

Aldercar High School Sixth Form boasts a lower than average teacher-to-student ratio that allows more personalised teaching which better supports students.

"Because we are a school-based sixth form, we can offer a higher level of pastoral care for our students because we know them individually. Every student has a tutor from their first day and they get a guidance period once a fortnight."

Discover a bright future

Head to Aldercar on Tuesday, October 11, from 5pm to 7pm to meet the teachers and find out how the education on offer can inspire your child when they move into Year 12.

For the first time, representatives from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham will be attending to offer the chance to discuss the degree options available.

“For some who may have missed out on some opportunities to find out more during the pandemic, this is a great opportunity to speak to people from the universities on our doorstep and discover subjects they might not even have known about,” says Ms Cracknell. “Or, if they have got a particular degree in mind, they can chat to someone and get advice on what is involved."

Visitors can explore the post-16 centre and its range of facilities, from newly refurbished study areas to the sixth form canteen who will be offering tasters of the range of food they serve from the bespoke post-16 menu.

"Even if your child isn't sure if sixth form is for them, everyone is welcome to have a look round.”

There will be a presentation at two different times in the evening which will then be available online after the open evening for anyone who misses out.
