Yesterday, Chesterfield Royal Hospital said there were signs that the number of coronavirus patients requiring critical care had ‘plateaued’.

According to the hospital, its intensive treatment unit is currently averaging around 10 patients, rather than 15.

The Royal also confirmed that 172 coronavirus patients had returned home since March 21 after receiving care and treatment at the hospital.

Lynn Andrews, director of nursing and patient care at the hospital, said: “Staying at home, right now, really does protect the NHS and is helping to save lives.”
