Any excuse for a party

TWO of our three pictures this week show an annual party that was held in Belper.

Keith Fox, who works at the Grapes pub in Belper, brought two albums in to show us. They contain pictures from an event called the Cottage Party, which was held at a house called Hillsboro, on Nottingham Road.

Keith tells us that Cyril Spencer, a former head teacher in Belper, organised the garden party for the anniversary of the day the cottage, which adjoined his Hillsboro home, was built.

“It was pretty much an excuse for a party,” said Keith. “Members of the British Legion and others went along. Cyril used the cottage as a garage and storage area.”
