Discovery Festival will return after record year

Organisers of the Discovery Days Festival held in the Derbyshire’s Derwent Valley have confirmed the event attracted record attendances,.

Official figures show more than 14,000 people attended more than 200 activities, with more than a thousand people exploring Belper’s heritage during the first weekend.

As a result of the success, chairman of the World Heritage Site Board, Councillor Andrew Lewer, confirmed plans for next year’s festival.

“There are already plans for a ninth Discovery Days celebration in the same week next year, building on the increasing national and international interest,” he said.
