Festival fun down on the farm

Music fans are spared a drenching at Whatstandwell where an annual family-friendly festival takes place in a barn at Hankin Farm.

This Saturday, June 18, is the 13th event of its kind and will feature a host of bands, children’s games, a barbecue, locally brewed ales and farmhouse cider.

The bands will include Ordinary Heroes, Familia Roots, The Katanas and Not in Kansas.

Ordinary Heroes (pictured), back by popular demand, will play the best classic and indie rock covers from the past four decades, from the Rolling Stones to Oasis, and promise a great finale to the evening.

Acoustic duo Not in Kansas hail from Market Harborough and comprises Elaine Price on vocals and percussion and Tim Hands on guitar and vocals. The set features covers with a twist, anything from Joe Jackson to The Cranberries and Keane. Clever looping and percussion help to create a big sound.

The Katanas will be serving up a slice of classic punk and alternative rock covers and Familia Roots will be playing reggae influenced music for people to dance to and be happy.

The entrance fee is £5 and souvenir glasses are available for £2.

Gates open at 2pm and the the bands will begin at 5pm. The festival goes on until 11pm, with a continuous flow of music.

For those who don’t want to drive home, camping is available on the farm campsite for a small additional fee. Toilets and showers are available on site, and caravans, camper vans and tents can all be accommodated.
