It has been a huge week for Belper Town FC, who are now on the verge of claiming a play-off position in the Evo-Stik League Division One South.
A stunning five-goal performance over Lincoln United on Saturday ensured Belper are almost over the line, with two goals from Jon Froggatt taking him to 31 goals for the season.
Assistant manager Michael Godber was left pleased with the team’s performance, insisting the Nailers are ready to take on any challenge that comes in the final weeks of the season.
“I thought we were brilliant on Saturday. Five great goals, a clean sheet and three points is the perfect day for us, and the performance was perfect from start to finish.
“To win in that manner at home, in front of our own fans was brilliant. We can sit and talk all day about how good we were, but we need to look on now to the next game, which is really important for us.
“We’ve really hit form now at the right end of the season, and we have a very good squad with a great team spirit.”
The good news doesn’t end there for the Nailers as striker Jon Froggatt and defender Philip Watt have been chosen in the Evo-Stik Division One South team of the season, and Godber was full of praise for his players, questioning whether more of his players could have been chosen for the team.
“Jon is superb. To get over 30 goals a season and be so consistent the way he has been is fantastic. Opposing teams will look at Jon before the match and be worried to face him.
“Phil equally has been superb for us, he’s a top defender. Him as well as Dan White are brilliant defenders, and if we’d have had those two playing there all season we may be a lot higher in the league than we are.
“For me, Steve Warne is a real unsung hero of this team. People may not appreciate what he does but he has been brilliant for us all season. Arguably he could have made the team of the season too.”
The Nailers were due to entertain Looughborough Dynamo last night (Tuesday) after the News went to press. This Satuday, they are at Rainworth MW.
