62-year-old dies in Derbyshire club

A 62-year-old man died in a club in Matlock at the weekend.

The man, from Wirksworth, collapsed at The Loft Club, at The Princes Buildings, on Crown Square, on Saturday evening, April 9.

The club released a statement via Facebook that he reportedly collapsed while dancing and died, despite efforts to save his life.

The Loft’s Facebook message stated: “On Saturday evening, whilst dancing a gentleman collapsed at The Loft. Every effort was made to resuscitate him, but sadly he passed away.”

The comedy club and bar also stated that it has received many messages of condolence which have been passed on to those concerned.

The Loft’s Facebook message added: “Ourselves and all of our staff wish to express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

“We’d also like to thank everyone present for their understanding of the situation and for their concern.

“We’ve received many messages of condolence, all of which we will do our best to pass on to those concerned.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Police have not yet formally identified the man.

Contrary to initial reports, Derbyshire police have now confirmed that no other people were injured in the incident.
