Belper’s 1st Alton Manor Scouts have just returned from a five day camp to Great Tower Scout Activity Centre close to the banks of Lake Windermere in the Lake District.

During the excursion, the scouts took part in a variety of water based activities on the lake, including sailing, canoeing, kayaking and raft building.

A particular highlight was Ghyll Scrambling near Coniston Water, which involved climbing up a ghyll or mountain river.

As well as water-based fun, the scouts also completed a hike to Bowness where they caught a boat to Lakeside, before hiking to the top of the 320m peak, Gummers How.
