All aboard at rail centre

MODEL railway fans are in for a treat at the weekend at The Midland Railway – Butterley.

The venue will be staged its Railex event on Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and August 14.

It will include huge model railway layouts, demonstrations and sales stands in most of the buildings at the museum complex.

The centre’s diesel depot will house most of the exhibits but there will also be ones in the Matthew Kirtley Building, the new station building, the West Shed, and even in St Saviour’s Church there, said a spokesman.

The headquarters of the Historical Model Railway Society will be open, said Alan Calladine the Midland Railway Trust Development Officer, who invited model fans to go along.
