Area hit by spate of vehicle crimes

A fast food van parked outside Belper’s North Mill was broken into over the weekend and a gas cylinder stolen from inside.

A hole was cut into a storage area connected to the vehicle some time between 3.15pm on Friday, January 31 and 7am on Saturday, February 1.

Police said it would have taken more than one person to carry the cylinder and are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

Meanwhile, two vehicles were also targeted in Duffield over the weekend.

On Chapel Street, the side window of a parked vehicle was smashed and a power tool was taken from within.

And on Derby Road the side window of a vehicle was smashed and a sat-nav taken from within.

Both crimes took place overnight between Thursday January 30 and Friday, January 31.

Another vehicle, parked in Bank Buildings, Milford was also targeted on Friday, January 31 around 1.35am.

Three men were disturbed after they shattered the rear window of a vehicle parked on the street.

Tools were taken from inside the vehicle before the culprits fled in a dark coloured hatchback.

Finally, diesel was siponed by thieves after they broke in to Buildbase, Goods Road, Belper some time between 5pm on Wednesday, January 29 and 3.15pm on Thursday, January 30.
