Modern-day Prince Charming, George Clooney was the inspiration behind popular Duffield author Tracy Bloom’s second novel.
And the timing could not be better - although it did lead to crisis talks between her and her London-based publisher.
The mum-of-two has just seen the publication of I Will Marry George Clooney (By Christmas), her second romantic comedy novel which focuses on Michelle, a chicken factory worker from Derby whose life has not gone as planned and decides the only answer is to try to marry George Clooney.
Tracy told Belper News: “I had the idea for this title three years ago so you can imagine how shocked I was when he announced his engagement and then subsequently got married just 12 days prior to the book coming out.
“There were crisis talks between Duffield and my publisher in London but we decided eventually that George Clooney is irreplaceable as our modern-day Prince Charming.
“We will all carry on hoping he will rescue us whether he is married or not!”
Tracy, a former marketing executive, began writing in 2007 when she lived in America for three years.
With a new baby, Tracy took up writing when her child was asleep.
She has previously self-published her own work, rising to the top of the ebook charts with No-one Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday.
The success of that novel led to a four-book deal with Penguin Random House.
The new book is so new that reviews are just being published.
One reads: “Another fantastic read from Tracy Bloom.
“It was funny and as always insightful with a plot that keeps you guessing and hooked until the end. I remain intrigued about “mushy pea curry”, and I really want the recipe for the chilli chicken!
“The complex relationship between the main character, her mother and daughter is a fascinating one. I sympathised with all at different parts of the book. (the mother only briefly!)”
