A PUB in Alderwasley has been named The Good Pub Guide 2012’s East Midlands Pub of the Year.
The prestigious title has gone to The Bear Inn and Hotel, on Belper Lane.
Licensee Pete Buller, 25, who has been in charge for three and a half years, said: “I am ecstatic.
“We were not expecting it to be honest. It was a pleasant surprise.”
Fiona Stapley, joint editor of The Good Pub Guide, said: “Readers can’t heap enough praise on this terrific all-rounder.
“Justifiably popular, this happy character-laden tavern has lovely dark low-beamed rooms with warming open fires and a cheerful miscellany of antique furniture.”
But what is the secret to The Bear’s success? Pete said: “Consistency. We have a good reputation and that is because of consistency.
“People know they will have a good meal, and that the beer and wine will be good.”
The Guide is now in its 30th year.
