The owners of a booming Belper beauty salon and barbers are all made up after being named on the shortlist for a regional cosmetics award.

Alla Moda, on The Butts, has been nominated for Makeup Specialist of the Year for the Midlands as part of this year’s English Hair and Beauty awards.

Salon owner Louise Byard, 28, said: “It was a massive surprise. Normally businesses put themselves forward and then ask customers to vote, but we hadn’t done any of that.

“This is just customers nominating us off their own back, and its a great endorsement of our work. It’s a big confidence boost, and gives the team a really good feeling to know we’re appreciated.”

The salon’s beauty packages primarily use the spray-based Airbase makeup.

Louise said: “It’s different to a lot of other stuff on the market, and wins us a lot of customers.

“We’re really busy with regular bookings and especially our wedding services at the salon and with home visits.”

A hairdresser first and foremost, Louise opened the salon in 2010 and ever since the business has gone from strength.

It now offers a comprehensive range of cutting, colouring, hair styling and extensions, plus specialist facial treatments.

She said: “We strive for nothing less than perfection from any of our services.

“Whatever you come in for, you will be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home instantly. Our clients are what make our salon.”

With ever-growing demand, Louise recently expanded its premises to include a treatment room and barbers, meaning the business is now well placed to cater for both male and female clientele.

The refurbishments were supported by a £115,000 funding facility from NatWest.

The bank was recommended to Louise by a client, who put her in touch with relationship manager Nick Peel.

Louise said: “Nick and his team were very supportive throughout. We have now transferred all our banking to NatWest.

“The improvements we have made to the salon are already having a massive effect on business, as we continue to take on more new clients.”

Since reopening the new improved salon, Alla Moda has expanded its staff team too, now employing two barbers and a stylist, which is helping the business to grow.

Nick said: “It’s great to see Louise’s plans for the salon come to life - I’m thrilled that we could get involved in supporting her in her ambitions, and we look forward to working with her again in the near future.”

The award winners will be announced at a glamorous ceremony in Leicestershire on Sunday, March 19.
