Staff at a Belper dance and fitness studio have bared all for their very own ‘calendar girls’ calendar in aid of charity.

The ladies of Ritmo STUDIO Dance & Fitness, on King Street, tastefully posed naked for the calendar, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity which campaigns against dementia.

The day was supported by make-up artist Laura Hickling, from Chesterfield, who works at Brackendale Spa, and photographer Lucile Spencer, from Belper.

Director, Angela Doodson, 48, said: “Our motivation was to give something to a charity that is close to a lot of the participants’ hearts. A number of us have seen our loved ones suffer with dementia.

“Another reason was some of the ladies wanted to normalise women’s bodies and try and show we are not like the airbrushed models, we are real people. Hopefully it will inspire people to love their bodies and not be shy.

“I have been overwhelmed with the support and interest for the calendar and I have been blown away with the amazing comments from friends and family wanting to offer their support.

“I know Alzheimer’s has touched so many people but didn’t realise the impact this would bring. I’m so proud of every lady that has got involved and I would like to give a special thank-you to the volunteers, Laura Hickiling for doing the make-up on the day and Lucile Spencer for being the amazing photographer she is.”

Another, Kerry Richards, said: “Ange has always supported me and I think it’s important to do something that’s challenging. It shouldn’t be easy otherwise it doesn’t mean as much - it was definitely out of my comfort zone getting naked”.

And Lynn Carson added: “I did it to support the charity and also did it because I’ve always been so self-conscious about my body, and since losing weight and working out at the studio I finally am at a stage where I’m comfortable and happy!”

The calendar has been supported by many local companies who have sponsored a month each, and will be available to purchase in a few weeks time from the studio itself.

Angela says she hopes the calendar will make for a thoughtful Christmas present in many a stocking this year.

Ritmo’s aim is to help people find a fitness or dance class that is non-judgemental and the studio caters for all ages, sizes and abilities.
