Charlotte Burton, 28, from Belper, was told she had ovarian cancer in January.

After a radical hysterectomy last month, doctors then found stage four cancer in her lymph nodes. Now, her family are planning a series of fundraising events to help her battle the condition, which has forced her to leave her job.

Charlotte’s mum, Hayley Robinson, has launched a GoFundMe page and is planning to shave her 29-inch long hair which she will donate to the Little Princess Trust to be made into a wig for a child battling illness. Hayley said: “Charlotte has always assumed that she would add to her family and now that chance as been taken away from her. Unfortunately she was given an additional diagnosis of stage four cancer in lymph nodes, and so the fight goes on. She now has to undergo gruelling chemotherapy.

“Before this devastating diagnosis Charlotte was a full-time working mother and had to give her job up. This had a massive impact on her family financially and adding to the already overwhelming stress for Charlotte. I can’t make the cancer go away, I can’t stop the horrible side effects of chemotherapy, but I can try to help her financially.”

Hayley’s brothers, Scott and Wesley Burton, both run paving businesses and are both running fundraising raffles with a prize of a 40m2 patio or driveway.

And businesses from Belper have pitched in by offering materials and services to the brothers for free to help off-set the cost of the prizes. Scott, who runs Belper Block Paving Specialist, and Wesley, of WB Paving in Belper, are offering the same paving prize while Wesley is also offering the option of fencing to the same value. Scott said: “As Charlotte is from Belper, we are hoping to raise as much support and awareness as possible. We are so grateful to have already received many donations from people and companies including Buiildbase, Plasmor, Trade Fix Building Plastics, Derwent Skip Hire, Browns Builders Merchants and Colsons.”

The Ritz Cinema in Belper also held a cake sale in support of Charlotte at the weekend.

Raffle tickets are £20 from Katie of Belper Block Paving on 07854 309 500 or Melissa of WB Paving on 07966 077 695 and the winner will be drawn live on Facebook at 1pm on April 8.
