Belper murder accused in court

A woman was due to appear in court today charged with the murder of Belper pensioner Sandra Bainbridge.

Andrea Cutler, of Alder Court, Derby, was expected to be brought before a judge at Nottingham Crown Court this morning, Wednesday January 8.

The 37-year-old is charged with committing the murder of Ms Bainbridge at her Short Row home on Tuesday, December 10.

The hearing is thought to be a preliminary appearance and it is not expected that Cutler will enter a plea at this stage.

Following the incident, Derbyshire Police urged people in the town to help them piece together the circumstances leading up to Ms Bainbridge’s death.

They are still appealing to residents who saw
anyone coming to and from the house between Sunday, December 1, and Tuesday, December 10, to contact them.

They are also urging residents in Ashbourne Road to check if their outhouses have been broken into.

Police believe that an
outhouse may have been broken into in the days before the 70-year-old died. It may contain evidence which could help with the investigation, a spokesman has said.

The break-in could have happened around Tuesday, December 3.

An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned at Derby and South Derbyshire Coroners’ Court.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out by a Home Office pathologist.

The area around the house was cordoned off following the death while forensic officers painstakingly examined the property.
