Belper sports clubs apply to build new facilities for the new year

Two sports clubs are kicking off the new year with high hopes of getting some new facilities.

Holbrook Sport and Social Club has applied to Amber Valley Borough Council for planning permission to build a new football clubhouse at the sports ground in Shaw Lane, Holbrook.

At the same time, Belper Meadows Sports Club has applied to build a replacement pavilion for its members to use.

The new clubhouse at Holbrook Sport and Social Club would replace the existing dilapidated changing rooms, which are to be demolished.

The building would measure 240 square metres on a green belt site of 1.8 hectares.

Although the site is greenbelt, agent Peter Rooney said in the application’s design and access statement: “Amber Valley Borough Council policy does allow for the erection of buildings for use of sports and leisure activities and I would point out that planning consent was granted a few years ago for a similar application on this site, albeit on a smaller scale.”

The Belper Meadows Sports Club has proposed building a 574 square metre pavilion at Chirstchirch Meadows, in Bridge Street, Belper.

If approved, the new building would include changing facilities and a function suite.
