The owner of a Belper business is celebrating his firm’s 30th birthday by announcing his intention to take on new recruits in the new Year.
Brian Gurnett started Class A Alarms from home in 1983 with the aim of providing high quality security alarm systems along with excellent customer service to homeowners and businesses across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Mr Gurnett says his commitment to fulfilling this aim, along with a trusted and loyal team of 12 engineers and support staff, has been the driving force behind the business’s longevity and success.
Now the firm is planning to take on new engineers in 2014 and is asking people to send in applications.
And the celebrations at Class A Alarms, which is based on King Street in Belper, don’t stop there. Neil Guest, 46, and Tony Jones,60, the company’s longest serving members of staff with 30 and 25 years’ service respectively, were recently honoured at a commemorative dinner.
Neil, who heads up the installation department, joined the business in 1983 as a trainee engineer, and Tony, who joined as a trainee service engineer in 1988, oversees the service department. Both were given a wrist watch to mark the occasion.
Brian Gurnett, founder and managing director of Class A Alarms, said: “As a small business owner I’m delighted to be able to celebrate such significant milestones with the team. When I started Class A Alarms all those years ago I was an ambitious man with a young family to support so there was no question that I wouldn’t do all I could to make it a success. Hard work, a commitment to providing quality and customer service, and an excellent team have been instrumental factors in it continuing to thrive.
“Being an employer who has created a business that people want to work for long term, and who in return has received loyalty, dedication and hard work for so many years, makes me very proud. So a huge thanks must go to Neil, Tony and the rest of the team for the role they’ve played.”
Brian’s son Joe Gurnett, 28, who joined the company as a trainee in 2004, is working closely alongside him learning the surveying and specifying side of the business, as the aim is for him to eventually take over the running of Class A Alarms.
Brian added: “I started Class A Alarms as a way of providing for my family, creating long term security and the best possible future for them, so for me to one day be able to leave the running of it to Joe, keeping the business in the family, is more than I could have hoped for.”
