people in Belper are clearly well-read after a hugely successful second-hand book sale event at the Strutts Centre in Derby Road in the town.
The centre’s volunteers hosted the two-day sale and sold more than 500 books from about 1,500 that they had on offer. In fact, Belper News reporter Rhys Thomas got the ball rolling when he bought one of the first books – former Derby County manager Brian Clough’s autobiography for just £1.
In total, the sale raised more than £350, which will go towards helping to run the project at the centre on Derby Road.
Cynthia Maddock, a trustee of the centre, said: “It went very well and we will be doing them on a regular basis. People are bringing lots of books in for us.
“We had an excellent turnout of people over the two days. We sell books all the time, but to have a concentrated effort like this is really good.”
