Beauty firm is set to grow

For many women the hectic pace of modern life means they don’t have nearly as much ‘me time’ as they would like.

That’s where mobile beauty therapist Amy Bennett comes in, one of the two winners of the Belper News Business Accelerators competition.

Amy’s flexible approach to business, working unsociable hours and visiting people in their own homes impressed our judges - who awarded her an advertising package worth around £2,500.

And it’s not just the career-driven professionals who Amy’s service appeals to. She also has many clients who are busy mums - taking advantage of a manicure or body wax in their home while the children are asleep.

Amy, from Belper, said: “The mobile aspect appeals to all sorts of people who are unable to make it to a salon. I have clients who don’t drive and many people with busy lives.

“I also get some weddings. One time I was working until 2am, but there was a bottle of wine and it all added the build-up to the big day.

“In my first year of business on my own I have been in positive figures every month.

“ Also I have achieved this starting my business at the age of 18 around a regular job and also I am working alongside my partner in our own network marketing business.

“My single biggest success in myself is my ability to manage my time effectively.”

Now Amy, aged 20, has won a package of free advertising as part of a national campaign by the newspaper industry and business chiefs aimed at helping new firms.

In October the News invited entries from firms aged between one and three years across the town, offering them the chance to win free advertisements in this newspaper worth thousands of pounds.

The initiative, backed by Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden was being spearheaded by the voice of local media, the Newspaper Society.

Prime Minister David Cameron threw his weight behind the scheme , saying it provided “tremendous support” to new businesses across the country and that local newspapers play a “vital role” in their communities and were uniquely placed to support small businesses.

In first place is A R H Domestic services run by Ann Hayward, which will receive a run of adverts worth a total of £3,500-plus, which are sure to help land the firm new customers. The adverts will run for 13 weeks.

Amy continued: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I had won. I feel more advertising will expand my clients so potentially I can be working further a field expanding my business to a wider market. “

“Extra advertising could potentially help me in my network marketing business too as I will be meeting lots of new people,

Why would your business in particular benefit from free local newspaper advertising and mentoring: I have built up my regular clients and more clients from referrals. I feel more advertising will expand my clients so potentially I can be working further a field expanding my business to a wider market. Extra advertising could potentially help me in my network marketing business too as I will be meeting lots of new people, then I will be able to cross off a goal of mine of leaving my ‘job’ and working for myself full time!
