MP opens up new jobs fair

Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills has organised another job fair at Ripley Leisure Centre next month.

The fair is the second event to be organised by the MP following a successful trial run in September last year.

The 2013 fair was attended by more than 600 people and saw over 50 people land jobs.

Mr Mills said: “Following the success of my first jobs fair last year, I’ll be holding a repeat of the event on March 28 at the leisure centre in Ripley, between 10am and 4pm.

“In holding this event I am aiming to facilitate constituents finding career opportunities, and to find opportunities to develop their skills.

“The fair will host businesses and organisations small to large offering full-time and part-time employment and apprenticeships, and also organisations offering training and education opportunities.”

Speaking about the first fair, Mr Mills said: “Sixty constituents were lucky enough to be employed at the fair itself, and I know that many more have been given interviews for jobs and opportunities for further training and apprenticeships.

“I know from the feedback that I’ve had from local businesses that the fair was a success. Just a few examples include fourteen new members of staff at the Co-Operative Group, three at GI Group in Ripley, three at the Derbyshire Hotel, seven at Vaillant, and dozens at Thorntons.”

Heanor-based bus firm Trent Barton, which is supporting the event, will be offering discounted travel on all routes to Ripley for anyone travelling to the fair.
