The Cromford Canal has become the first landmark in Derbyshire to be celebrated with a blue plaque.

The special honour was put up by Derbyshire County Council after members of the public voted for the attraction.

Patrick Morriss, chairman of the Friends of Cromford Canal, said: “It is heartening to see how much public support the canal actually has.”

The blue plaque was unveiled by Derbyshire County Council’s leader Councillor Andrew Lewer.
