friends and regulars of the Welcome Tavern on Mill Lane, Belper, look to be on top of the world as they begin a trek from Parsley Hay, near Buxton.

The sponsored walkers raised an impressive £5,340, for the Royal Derby Hospital Chemotherapy unit by trekking from the Peak District village, 20 miles to the doorstep of the pub itself on Mill Lane.

Landlady of the welcome Tavern, Eliza Poplar, 34, said the gang had got together to do the charity walk in memory of friend Pam Falconbridge, who recently died from cancer.

Eliza thanked the Falconbridge family and all of her pubs regulars for organising and taking part in the event. She added: “We are thrilled with the amount of money that was raised, we were very humbled. Cancer affects one person in every family - it is so nice that we could do something. We would like to make this a yearly event.”
