Young chicks have welcomed some new chucks to their school.
Pupils from Lea Primary School welcomed some new arrivals last week in the shape of hens and a cockerel donated by Tim Sidaway, a parent and proprietor of Garden Farm at High Leas.
Head teacher Simon Gostick said: “It’s another piece in the jigsaw to develop the school grounds and enable children to learn beyond the classroom and develop practical skills and responsibility.”
The children have taken to the new arrivals well and have already christened the cockerel ‘Big Daddy’.
He and the other birds are settling in well to their new home.
The chickens are laying well and providing eggs that will be used by the school’s good food club and class cookery sessions.
As well as the birds themselves, Tim donated the run for them.
