THE BUILD up to Christmas in Belper and Milford can officially begin when the festive lights are switched on this Friday, November 25.

Milford’s lights will be switched on first when Belper Mayor Cllr Alan Cox and Father Christmas perform the duty at 5pm in the car park of the Strutt Arms. Children from Milford Primary School will sing Christmas carols.

Cllr Cox will then make his way to Belper to turn on the lights alongside Ray Asher, who is the recently-retired chairman of the Friends of Babington Hospital.

The switch-on is at 5.45pm in the town’s Memorial Gardens on King Street.

In Belper there will also be late-night shopping, stalls, Santa’s Grotto, a nativity and street entertainment.
