Citizens Advice Bureau alert over cold calling scam

Conmen claiming to be from the Citizens Advice Bureau have been cold calling Derbyshire homes offering help with accident claims.

The Derbyshire Districts Citizens Advice Bureau, which offers advice in the Belper and Amber Valley area, put out a warning after being alerted to the scam.

It said that that no genuine CAB adviser, or anyone connected with the CAB service, would ever phone or text someone out of the blue.

Aspokesman said: “If you are cold called or get a text about things such as loan offers, help with debt problems or accident claims – it is almost certainly a scam.”

The advice from Derbyshire Districts CAB is to make sure you:

• Don’t give or confirm any personal information

• Report the call immediately to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.org.uk/report_fraud

• Contact your local bureau for free, confidential, independent and expert advice to help resolve your problems.
