Concert to mark end of Games

The final day of the Paralympic Games is to be marked by a special concert in Belper’s River Gardens.

Belper Town Wind Band will entertain audiences from 2-4pm as part of the national Bandstand Marathon event, which offers people a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to be part of the finale celebrations for London 2012.

The free event will be one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking place simultaneously on Sunday, September 9.

Belper Town Council confirmedthe event would be taking place this week.

Clerk, Rosalind Bullimore, said: “Belper Town Council is delighted to announce their Bandstand Marathon event at Belper River Gardens on Sunday September 9, marking the end of the London 2012 Festival and an amazing summer of sport and culture on the final day of the Paralympic Games.”

Bandstand Marathon is organised by not-for profit arts organisation Superact and Making Music, with support from The Department for Communities and Local Government.

Ruth Mackenzie, Director, London 2012 Festival, said: “The Bandstand Marathon is encouraging local music groups to showcase their talents and be part of the London 2012 Festival.
