Fracking licences across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire have been dished out by the Government and it is expected that planning applications will be going in over the next few months to allow exploratory drilling to take place.
Companies hope to carry out drilling in more than ten territories around the area to establish whether shale gas reserves are suitable to allow the fracking process to take place.
If and when approved, and if the sites prove suitable, industry sources say that fracking could be taking place beneath parts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire within two years.
