A CAMPAIGN to protect Derbyshire consumers from fake lotteries, get-rich-quick schemes and deceptive prize draws has been a huge success.
Throughout February, Derbyshire County Council held a ‘scamnesty’ – part of a nationwide campaign – to encourage residents to hand in their scam letters, leaflets and flyers.
And trading standards officers were overwhelmed by the response.
More than 1,500 scams were handed in to county council libraries – compared to 110 last year.
Cllr Carol Hart said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to this campaign.”
The top five scams reported by Derbyshire residents were prize draws, foreign lottery scams, health products or supplements, clairvoyant scams and advance fee scams.
