Jacob Bradley, 27, was seen emerging from his flat at a supported living complex on Tapton Lane “soaking wet” just “moments” after entering it on June 28, a court heard.
Chesterfield magistrates heard how inside Bradley’s flat a knife and a pair of scissors were found near the broken sprinkler head - which caused £585 in damage to his home.

Hide AdBecky Allsop, prosecuting, told North East Derbyshire Magistrates Court “it was clear to those investigating that this was deliberate”.
David Gittens, defending Bradley, said: “The reason for this offending is this gentleman is schizophrenic and believed the sprinkler was trying to emit radiation and poison him.
“My client suffers from poor thinking skills and mental health difficulties.”
Bradley, of Newbold Court, admitted criminal damage and was bailed unconditionally until March 22 pending mental health reports.
