Last week, the court heard that Twibey also turned up at the woman’s place of work and threatened and assaulted her, and damaged a window and a car tyre at the property she was staying with her mother.

The court heard that Twibey, of Manor Court Road, had entered into an extramarital affair with another woman and, while his wife had initially said she would take him back if he ended it, she was unable to forgive him and ended the relationship.

The court heard that Twibey had turned up in the early hours of the morning on December 19 last year and caused damage to the window and tyre and then later turned up at the hotel where his former partner works.

He then jumped over the reception desk and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her into the carpark, where he became aggressive before trying to kiss her.

Mitigating, Denny Lau said: “They had been in a marriage for 20 odd years but he had met a partner on the side. She found out about it and they agreed that he could come back if he ended the new relationship. In the end she could not accept what he had done.”

At the latest hearing, District Judge Jonathan Taaffe sentenced him to an 18-month community order to include a 31-day building better relationships course, six rehabilitation days and 60 hours of unpaid work.He also ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

Sentencing, he said: “I accept there’s pain when a relationship breaks down, but that’s no reason to act like an idiot.”
