Derbyshire police found £55,000 stashed in an Asda bag for life after searching Audi

Officers in Derbyshire have recovered £55,000 which was found hidden in an Asda bag for life, after they searched an Audi on behalf of HMRC.

The car was stopped on the A50 by officers in cars and on motorbikes from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit and the force’s bike unit yesterday (April 20).

Police conducted the search on behalf of HMRC and discovered £55,000 in cash inside the Audi, that was hidden in a bag for life.

Derbyshire Road Policing Unit Bikers posted on social media about the find, writing: “Vehicle stop for #hmrc. Bikes involved alongside @DerbyshireRPU colleagues in cars.

The find prompted a number of responses from Twitter users, making jokes about the substantial wad of cash.

One person joked: “Ted Hastings would love that sort of wedge.”

While another social media user said: “Just checked all my Sainsbury’s bags on the off-chance.... nope all empty.”
