Derbyshire police used a ‘stinger’ to stop the driver of a stolen car who tried to escape from officers, and crashed in the Peak District.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said they spotted a Mazda car, which had been stolen in a burglary, out in the Peak District near Hathersage.

When the driver failed to stop for the police they deployed a ‘stinger’ – a spiked metal device which punctures the vehicle’s tyres.

The driver crashed shortly afterwards and the two people inside the stolen car were arrested.
