A man was jailed after leaving a courtroom dock because he feared going to prison.

When jobless Lee Morris returned to the glass-fronted area after a tense few minutes, he was told by a judge that he had wrecked earlier moves to stay out of jail.

Morris, 23, of Maple Drive, Belper, admitted assaulting a man by beating in Derby on May 8. He appeared at the magistrates’ court in the city on Thursday.

He told District Judge Joanne Alderson:”I don’t particularly like it here.” She replied:”The dock is where people who are to be sentenced go.”

He was jailed for 14 weeks.
