A SECTION of the Coppice car park in Belper was cordoned off by police after blood was found on the floor.
It followed reports of an assault taking place on the town’s Market Place last Saturday, October 15, at 8.10pm.
When police arrived on the Market Place there was no-one there.
But a police spokeswoman said: “We later spoke to someone, made an arrest and then discovered blood on the car park, which was why it was closed.”
She added that the victim — a man aged in his 20s — later rang police to tell them he had been assaulted.
The suspect, a 45-year-old man, has been bailed while police conduct an investigation.
Police said the victim’s injuries were not serious.
