A young man from Heanor is in a critical condition after he was flung from his car when he collided with a lamppost.
The incident happened along the Woodlinkin bypass, near the George’s Tradition chip shop, on Saturday at 3.25am.
The 18-year-old was found bleeding from a head injury but alive.
He was driving towards Langley Mill in a green Daewoo Matiz when the accident happened, and was taken to the QMC in Nottingham.
Police closed the road in both directions.
Police are appealing for witnesses, who can call 101, but don’t believe any other vehicles were involved.
