Tyre slashing spurs Christmas warning

A man who had all four of his car tyres slashed is warning Belper motorists to be on their guard.

The Windmill Rise resident, who did not want to be named, said yobs had caused around £500 worth of damage to his Range Rover when they struck over night on December 12.

He said he had installed sensor lights and would be fitting gates to ensure it didn’t happen again, and urged people in the area to check their own security.

“I want to warn other people in the area to make sure this doesn’t become a trend over Christmas,” he said.

“I think they used a dart of knife to slash the tyres.

“People cut past our house on their way from town to the estates, so it will probably be a bunch of muppets coming back from the pub.

“I have lived here for eight years and nothing like this has happened to me before.”

The man said he had no reason to suspect that anyone would want to target him.

Meanwhile on the same evening between 4.30pm and 7.30pm a mini digger and silver trailer were stolen from a County Transport Depot in Ripley Road, Ambergate.

The digger was locked when it was stolen and police and appealing for anyone with information about its whereabouts to come forward.

It is not thought that the two crimes are linked.

Latest police statistics for October show there were three vehicle related crimes in Belper during that month in Jubilee Court, Goods Road andBroom Close.

If you have any information about the incidents phone Derbyshire Police on their non-emergency 101 number.
